Materials List: large piece of chart paper, markers
Grasping the concept of time is difficult for young children. They can learn more about the past by constructing a personal timeline after making a timeline as a group. Make a group timeline and place it on the classroom wall. The timeline might consist of activities that take place during the school day, important dates the class will celebrate throughout the year, or studentsí birthdays. When students have an understanding of how a timeline is constructed, have them create their own timeline. Have students gather information about their familiesí birthdays or pictures from when they were young. Ask students to compile this information on a timeline to share with their classmates.
