As
Vermilion Parish
began rebuilding in the
aftermath of Hurricane Rita, Chevron Awarded money to
help in the crusade of rebuilding the schools
along the
Gulf Coast.
Several Chevron employees
presented
Vermilion Parish Schools with a $1.34
million check as the first phase of the Energy
for Learning Grant. (Shown in picture two above
from left to right are: Melody Meyer - VP, Gulf
of Mexico Business Unit, Acting Superintendent
Phil Sellers, Mike Burnside - Americas Regional
Manager, Chevron Oronite Company, Chanel Jolly -
Energy for Learning Program Director). In the
next phase, teachers were
trained with new
science technologies and
resources made available
through the
Chevron Grant. In the fall of
2007, the implementation of the new equipment began in
Vermilion Parish Classrooms! Since then,
Vermilion Parish has continued its efforts by
offering professional development annually to
keep teachers and students up-to-date on
activities using these resources.
