The Vermilion
Parish Bilingual Program (Title III) serves about
300 ELL (English Language Learners) annually.
There are a total of eight bilingual tutors who work
intensively with children who are identified as
Limited English Proficient providing assistance with
translation, word to word recognition, phonemic and
phonological awareness, homework help, and
test-taking strategies. Four of the tutors are
designated to work with the Vietnamese Asian
population and the other four work with the Hispanic
population. The itinerant tutors work with
students on a pull-out basis traveling to assigned
schools daily.
