Current
Unfortunately, the start of school brings an end to the VPSB Wednesday Tennis.
Last day was August 13th.
Congrats to all our graduates from Vermilion Parish Schools. The dates of
graduations, happening this week and next are found to the right in the Calendar
of Events!
Our new anti-virus is the LightSpeed
Security Agent. We will be pushing out the new antivirus and the
uninstallation of eTrust starting May 21 when you login. If you prefer to do
this manually, at your convenience this week, you can
follow the directions
and do it at any time.
Registration is now open for the August 12, 2008 inservice, "Raising the Bar".
You will need to login with your online database password, not your email or
network password. Register Now!
Vermilion Parish public schools' scores were released this week. The
scores reflect the hard work by all stakeholders. See percentages on the
Leap and iLeap tests!
Congratulations to all students, teachers, parents, administrators, and staff
for all the hard work!
The local survey is now open for VPSB teachers and administrators to fill out
and select your incentive. Most of you have already completed the state
survey, but if not, please do that one first. This process requires you to
update your list of computers as well as user info such as school location for
the 2008-2009 school year. Incentives will be ordered in July for the
beginning of school.
Login and Fill out Local Survey
NOW!
Today, when you logged in, VPSB staff may have seen some messages on a popup
window. This is just a reminder that the new Anti-Virus will be pushed
next week, when you login. We wanted to get your attention. Please
read all popups in the future and do not just click ok!
BTW ... Hope you are feeling alright!

For the next few weeks, Algebra I students and English II students will be
taking the End-of-Course testing. End-of-Course (EOC) tests are a recommendation
of the High School Redesign Commission to help improve the consistency and rigor
of high school courses across the state. Because of this, our Internet
bandwidth will be tested and access to network and Internet use will be closely
monitored to restrict use to only necessary educational use during school hours
(7:00 - 2:45). Lesser restrictions are now applied before and after school.
Please read restrictions!
May is better Speech and Hearing month. It is
an annual event to raise awareness of communication disorders. This year
Vermilion Parish kicked off the month long event with an exciting donation.
Advanced Multimedia Devices Inc.(AMDi), located in Hicksville New York, donated
several augmentative communication devices to our parish.

Check out the VPSB blog (link above) and read about what is happening in our
parish and why we have so many growing pains. We are aware of the
frustrations with email and the Internet, but hopefully we can look ahead to a
great future!
Round 2 for Promethean Boards for VPSB teachers begins now with
application
and completion of either the
LATEL or ETI
program this summer. Purchase orders and applications will be filled on the
last day (July 28,29).
The application for
Promethean Boards for those who
have already completed professional development this past year is now
available!
Professional Development for using the Promethean board has been scheduled for
this summer for round 1 and the fall for Round 2. Installations should be
done in May and August.
Our VPSB license for eTrust has expired. Our new anti-virus is the LightSpeed
Security Agent. We will be pushing out the new antivirus and the
uninstallation of eTrust next week when you login. If you prefer to do
this manually, at your convenience this week, you can
follow the directions
and do it at any time.
Our Internet and network resources are limited and thus should be used
only for educational purposes especially during school hours. Although
listening to the radio is not inappropriate in general, if we all stream
Internet Radio during school hours, our network would crawl. Thus, please
respect our resources. We have purchased and setup our own streaming
server for United Streaming. United Streaming should be streamed. Thus you
no longer need to download them, especially to our servers. If you wish to
download, please use your own hard drive and not any of the servers.
Congratulations to all the teachers who have completed the various online
professional development in the LaTEL, ETI, and Vocabulary programs offered
earlier this year. Not only did they receive new computers (as many others
did), but they will also be the first ones to have the opportunity to have new
Promethean
Boards installed in their classrooms. Details will be emailed to them
shortly. See the list of
teachers!
VPSB staff should complete the state technology self-assessment by April 23. You
should have received the
address
and password from your technology specialist last week. Also those who
have received new computers should update the online database. To check
your information, even if you did not get new computers, login at:
http://www.vrml.k12.la.us/reg
A new anti-virus program called Security Agent will begin rolling out this week
to replace eTrust. The installation of the new and removal of the old will
be done automatically at login. Please be patient if you see new things
happening at login. The computer should automatically reboot itself a few
times depending on the status of your updates as well. Please do not stop the
process. You may need to hit any key to continue
The Vermilion Parish School Board has approved the calendars for the 08-09 and

keyboards, and mice! No cpu is needed; it shares the hard-drive of the new
computer! For more info on nComputing

Teachers from throughout Vermilion Parish have requested more
sessions given by teachers highlighting lessons, strategies, and/or
technology that has been tried and found to be effective. These
sessions are practical and have proven effective for teachers in
Vermilion. Sharing what works is just the right thing to do.
