I have been a teacher for twenty-six and a half years. I taught first grade for thirteen years, second grade for seven years, and seventh grade for 1 year, and eighth grade for 3 years. I also taught 1/2 year in fifth grade. This year I have taken on a new position. I am teaching art to seventh and eighth graders (four sections), as well as language/spelling to eighth and sixth graders (one section of each). I have experienced many changes over the years. I think that is part of what makes teaching an enjoyable and exciting occupation. My biggest challenge as a teacher is reaching students at their own level, and challenging them to reach further and to grow. My constant goal is to provide a classroom environment where my students feel safe to take risks, to reach their potential.
