Question: When do I need to fill out Request for Email / Network / Internet Account Form? Answer:    1) If you are new to the parish you will need to fill out a Request for Email / Network / Internet Account Form. 2) If you are a retired teacher or have not worked for the parish in over a year you will need to fill out a Request for Email / Network / Internet Account Form.

Question: How do I know when my Network, Email, Oncourse and Blackboard accounts are created? Answer:    You will recieve a form stating the user names and passwords for each of these accounts. Because the courier does not deliver to every school on a daily basis it will take a few days before a copy of this form is delivered to your school. Please verify that all accounts have not been created before submitting another form.

Question: How can I delete and email without opening it? Answer:    Right click on it and choose delete
 

Question: What is music and video streaming? Answer:    When a video or song is played from a server (online) rather than a local file (on your computer or downloaded) it is called streaming. Music or video streaming can only be enjoyed when you are connected to the Internet.

Question: When do I fill out the Onsite Request Form? Answer:    If you need technology help at your school and would like a technician to visit your classroom and assist you with a technology problem. A description of your problem is helpful in case the technicians will need to bring items such as power or printer cables, switches, etc.

Question: What do I do if I have technology equipment that needs to be repaired? Answer:    On the Vermilion Parish Schools home page there is a Technology Page. If you go to the Technology page there is a section for Computer Repair. There are two types of requests. 1) Fill out Repair Form 2) Fill out Onsite Visit Form

Question: How do I place an event on the calendar. Answer:    If you would like to make an event public to the school system you can request to show this event on the calendars. When filling out the "Room Request" Form online, on type of request choose "Placed on Main Calendar ONLY"

Question: Why can't I reserve a room on the calendar? Answer:    Only certain people have access to reserve rooms on the calendars. Fill out the form below and the room will be reserved for you.

Question: What do I do if I forgot my email password? Answer:    Call Ms. Joyce in the Computer Center 898-5739
 

Question: How do I change my OnCourse password. Answer:    Once you have logged into OnCourse if you look on the top right hand corner of your page you will see Welcome Back (your name), Profile, Support Center, Log Out. Click on the word profile. The page that is displayed will allow you to change your password. You can only change your password if you know your current password.
 

Question: How do I change my Blackboard Password? Answer:    Once you are logged into your Blackboard account there is a box that says Tools on the left hand side of the screen. The last option is Personal Information. If you go to the personal information section you will have the option of changing your password. You can only change your password if you know your current password.
 

Question: What is my District ID for the Online Database? Answer:    The Distict ID can not be changed. Your Dist ID is the last 6 digits of your JPAMS User Name. If you have any questions please contact your Technology Specialist.
 

Question: How do I change my network and internet password? Answer:    Log onto your computer with the account you wish to change in the parish domain. Hit Ctrl, Alt, Delete. Click change password. You can only change your password if you know your current password.
 

Question: How do I change my OnCourse password? Question: How do I change my email password? Answer:    IceWarp - Once you are logged onto your account you can change your password. Go to tools; accounts; and you will have the option of changing your password.
 

Question: What if I forgot my password? Answer:    1)If you forgot your EMAIL password you will need to call Joyce in the Computer Center 898-5739. 2)If you forgot your BLACKBOARD password you can request an email be sent to you with your password. When you get to the blackboard home page click on the user login button. Under the password box you can click on the forgot password link. Fill out the information that is asked for and submit. You will receive a email with your password. 3)If you forgot your OnCourse password you can request a password. To the top right of the page next to user name and password if you click on retrieve password and fill out the required information you can have your password sent to your email account. 4) If you forgot any other password please call 898-5773 for help. REMEMBER: This is not to change your password you can change it yourself if you know your password. THIS IS ONLY IF YOU FORGOT YOUR PASSWORD.
 

Question: Why is music streaming not allowed? Answer:    Music streaming in itself is not inappropriate, but it is a network resource hog. If we allow everyone to stream music our internet access would come to a crawl. We suggest using local cd's in the computer if you need background music.
 

Question: What do I do if I think a blocked site should be allowed? Answer:    When you go to a site and a page comes up that says "Access Denied" you can override the content filter. If you feel like there is no reason why the website you are trying to view has a block on it, you can submit a request to take the block off of this website. On the Access Denied page there are three options. The last of the options states "If you feel like this website should be allowed you may submit it for review." Once you click on the "submit it for review" link, enter your email address and explain why you think this page should not be blocked. Click the "Submit for Review" button and the site will be reviewed.
 

Question: Where can I download WINZIP? Answer:    If you do not have WINZIP on your computer you may download this file. Go to My Computer; Public on Snoopy, Software; WinZip. Download the file in this folder following all prompts and it should install on your computer.
 

Question: Why are certain web sites blocked? Answer:    Web Sites are blocked because the material on these sites are normally not considered educational. If you need the site for educational purposes you may override the filter. Different logins have different privledges. Most sites are allowed using the teacher account. Teachers accounts can override many sites that are blocked. If the students are logged in they have less permissions and may need an override.
 

Question: How do I override a blocked site? Answer:    Teachers can override most blocked site by entering their "override" or teacher account. Teachers have less restriction than generic or student accounts. This should only be done for educational purposes and not for student freetime or rewards. Overrides are also tracked in a special report and will be closely monitored. If a teacher password is given out to a student for an override, the teacher will need to change the password immediately after the activity. See "How to change passwords" in the Accounts and Password section of FAQ
 

Question: Why are YouTube, music, Video Sites, etc. blocked? Answer:    Normally, these sites are not educational and use a large amount of bandwidth which should be reserved for educational use. For those items which teacher find educational, the teacher can override the filter to use an educational resource. These overrided sites are carefully monitored and non-educational sites should not be accessed during educational times.
 

Question: Does the filter record everything I do? Answer:    YES! EVERYTHING that you do online is recorded on the filter. EVERY website visited, EVERY IM conversation, EVERY email and EVERYTHING you search for is tracked by the filter. EVERYTHING done online is tracked by user name.
 

Question: Why should I turn off my computer every afternoon? Answer:    1. Saves electricity 2. There are better chances of getting a virus if you leave your computer on all night. 3. Updates are made to classroom computers frequently. Most updates require the computer to restart in order for a complete installation. These updates are important but if the computer is never restarted then the updates are never fully installed.
 

Question: Should I leave my Computer on ALL NIGHT? Answer:    NO!!!! You should shut down your computer every afternoon before you leave for the day.
 

Question: Where can I get a Spyware Program? Answer:    Go to My Computer; Public on Snoopy; Software; Anti_Spy_Software. All of the programs in this folder should work the same. Download which ever program you would like to use.
 

Question: What do I do if I don't have an antivirus program on my computer? Answer:    You can download an antivirus program. To find this file go to My Computer; Public on Snoopy; Software; Antivirus; doubleclickme. This program is for school use only. If you would like to put an antivirus program on your home computer go to My Computer; Public on Snoopy; Software; AVG Antivirus Home Use Only.
 

Question: What do I do if I have a Virus? Answer:    Immediately, unplug your cable wire from the network to keep it from spreading to other computers. If you are familiar with your antivirus program, you should run it to see if it can remove it or contain it. If it is spyware, then installing and running one of the spyware programs may remove it. Should you have any question or doubt about what to do, please contact your technology specialist or the VPSB technology department at 898-5773.
 

Question: Why can't I open a Microsoft Word File? Answer:    Many new files saved with a later version of a software cannot be opened by an earlier version. For example, you can not open a Microsoft Word 2007 file with the regular Microsoft Word XP or 2003 Software. There is a Compatibility Patch, however, that can be downloaded so that any 2007 office file can be opened by an earlier version. This Patch will allow you to open a Microsoft Word 2007 document even if you only have Microsoft 2003 on your computer. To download this file go to My Computer; Public on Snoopy; Software; MS Office 2007 Compatibility Pack then double click the file in this folder to install.

Question: How do I set up accounts? Answer:    Fill out the email/network/account form and fax to 898-5809. You can print a copy of this form from the link below.

Question: Why doesn't my email password work? Answer:    We switched to a new server over the summer and had to reset all of the accounts. We were able to transfer the user names, but not the password. Your password had to be reset. The technology person at your school or the principal can tell you the new password.
