AHS GCE
Receives MERA Grant
Penny Montz, GCE
Coordinator at Abbeville High School recently received $7,500.00
Marketing Education Retail Alliance Grant for her Marketing Classroom.
This amount was the most the Marketing Students were able to receive for
the year 2005-2006, due to the fact that MERA will also use their
flexibility in helping students throughout the state especially those
affected by Hurricane Katrina and Rita.
For the past three years Montz has been the General
Cooperative Education Coordinator at Abbeville High School and has
received funds from the Marketing Education Retail Alliance organization
each year. Presently, 31 students are enrolled in the program. These
students attend Abbeville High and are allowed to work in our community
with a minimum of 540 documented hours per school year.
The MERA Grant will enable Montz to purchase modern
equipment, such a Digital Copier and two new student computers that will
be of assistance in educating and training of her students. MERA
enables Montz to ?Bridge the Gap? between the educational facility to
the workplace.
As in the past, through
the generosity of the Marketing Education Retail Alliance, Montz will be
able to provide necessary skills and essentials to prepare her students
for a technological society. MERA and Montz are following
the educational theme of the state "Reaching for Results".
Pictured below are the students in the GCE classes.
