Vermilion Parish Literacy Day Book Drive

A good book is the best of friends, the same today and forever.      Martin Tupper

Vermilion Parish Elementary Supervisor Ann Hardy announced that Vermilion Parish will be hosting a "Literacy Day Book Drive" on February 16, 2012. The "Day of Literacy" project is a joint effort spearheaded by United Way of Acadiana and KATC to help school libraries.

Hardy stated that "the goal is to collect as many books as possible for the schools." She also shared that "all books collected in Vermilion Parish will remain in the parish."  The drive would help in supplying age-appropriate books, as well as fostering early grade literacy in students.

Anyone wanting to donate new or gently-used books in Vermilion Parish may do so on February 16th from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Vermilion Parish School Board office located at 220 S. Jefferson Street in Abbeville, LA.

Hardy also shared that "any assistance from educators, parents, and business members would be appreciated.
