With the slogan
"Proudly Supporting the Children of this Community Since
1980" the
Erath Backer’s Club has worked the past three
decades with one objective in mind, to help assist Erath
schools and youth.
With a specific goal
in place of raising funds, the organization meets monthly
and works extensively each year by setting up a series of
fundraisers throughout the year earmarked to help the Erath
schools. Some examples of fundraising ventures this year
included selling Erath Backer’s shirts, EHS flags and
hosting a jambalaya dinner. This spring they hosted their
Annual Golf Tournament on April 16th and will end the year
with their Backer’s Club Crawfish Boil on April 30th.
The group works extensively with Erath High School raising
funds for athletics and other programs. The group also hosts
Erath High’s Annual Athletic Hall of Fame Induction each
fall.
Recently, the club brought checks to
Erath Middle and Dozier Elementary to assist with funding as
well.
On
April 13, 2011, the Erath Backer’s Club President Chris
Hebert and Treasurer Robert B. Vincent presented Dozier
Elementary Principal Karla Toups and Assistant Principal
Natalie Hebert with a $3000 check earmarked primarily toward
technology needs, with a small portion being used toward the
school’s upcoming Teacher Appreciation Week activities.
School leaders, the technology committee and faculty members
have been on a quest the past two years to bring more
technology resources into the classrooms. With the Backer’s
Club donation, the school’s need at this time would be to
begin upgrading several older classroom computers.
A few weeks prior to
Dozier’s donation, the Backer’s Club offered a $3000 check
to Erath Middle school’s Principal Lynn Moss. Moss stated
that the earmarked funds would help purchase new basketball
goals for the playground, paper to help teachers and if
money is still available, possibly for curtains in the gym.
The current 2010-11 Backer’s Club

Co-Secretaries Kesha Touchet and Melissa Rosa.
