2014-15 Teacher of the Year Melissa T. Romero

Romero Named Dozier Teacher of the Year

On Monday, November 11, 2014 during the school's Veteran's Day assembly, Dozier Elementary Principal Karla Toups announced that Melissa Terry Romero was named the school’s 2015-16 Teacher of the Year. The surprised 3rd grade teacher was then greeted with flowers by family members on hand. (Note: The Parish Teacher of the Year competition is a year ahead, making her eligible for the 2015-2016 competition.)

Romero is a 1994 graduate of Franklin Sr. High, and a 1998 UL graduate who earned BA in Elementary Education and then her Master's Degree in 2005, in Curriculum and Instruction.

She began her career teaching in Lafayette Parish in 1999 where she remained until 2004. At that time, she transferred to Vermilion Parish taught at Henry Elementary until it closed after Hurricane Rita. She then moved to Eaton Park for one year and then to Dozier Elementary in 2007.

Principal Karla Toups shared that “Mrs. Romero is a truly dedicated educator.”  Toups also shared that “Dozier Elementary and the Erath community are both lucky to have her."

The next level of competition for the Dozier teacher will now be at the parish level.

The former Melissa Terry is married to Marshall Romero and together they have one son, Aiden. She is the daughter of Will and Debra Terry of Franklin, Louisiana.
