2015-2016 Dozier Elementary Student of the Year Lynkon Romero

On December 6, 2016, Dozier Elementary Principal Karla Toups announced that Lynkon Romero was named the 2016-17 DES Student of the Year. Romero is the 5th grade son of Rachel and Jeremy Romero of Erath. After the announcement, the Dozier student was greeted with balloons and special family guests.

The pre-teen plays the saxophone in the 5th grade band and is active in many school activities. He is in the Jr. Beta club and was elected as Vice President this year. He has been in 4H two years and is now the Parliamentarian.

Romero has a 4.0 GPA and is a top AR reader in the school. His favorite subjects in school are science and reading. He enjoys playing football at recess with his friends. The young Romero stated that he "loves all sports and hopes to continue playing after college. In college, he "wants to major in computer engineering because he loves technology."

Outside of school, he has been active in community sports such as: football (7 years), soccer (5 years), basketball (6 years) and baseball (6 years).   What made the award even more special for the family was that Romero's mom (Rachel) was named the Dozier Elementary "Teacher of the Year" in November.

His grandparents are Bryan and Nell Romero from Cow Island, and Tommy and Wendy Stoute from Erath.
