"This Planet Really Rocks"
Lesson!! The students started off by making an
sedimentary rock with shavings from a crayon. They
pressed on the crayon sediment with their hands just as
the pressure from water would make the sedimentary rock
form. Then they turned that rock into a metamorphic rock
by hammering it between two boards just as a metamorphic
rock would be formed by being buried in the Earth's
surface. Students had to write a statement in their
learning logs that gave a real world explanation of how
a sedimentary and metamorphic rock would form.
