Paula Bernard and Shanna Broussard recently spoke to Mrs. Amy B. LeBlanc's Family and Consumer Science II Class at Erath High to kick off their class Parenting Unit, focusing on special needs children. Bernard is a mother to 15 year-old Alex, who was diagnosed with Autism at the age of two. Broussard's son, Braxton, who is also 15, was born with a rare genetic disorder affecting his eyes and kidneys. Their sons are freshmen at EHS and have been best friends since they started school. The two women spoke about their journey as moms and discussed some of the challenges and triumphs of parenting a child with special needs. Their messages from the heart truly impacted the students and provided them with life lessons that will extend far beyond the classroom. A very special thanks to these two ladies.
