Ryan Poche was recently
named the Erath High
Student of the Year. The
current senior at EHS,
is serving his fourth
term as Class President.
He is also serving on
the EHS Student Council
and serves as an officer
for a number of EHS
clubs and organizations.
Poche has not only been
Sr. Beta President for
the State, but also
served as the Louisiana
Jr. State Beta President
while at Erath Middle,
as well.
During the
summer of 2011 he took
his Beta title a notch
higher at the National
Beta Convention in
Nashville, Tennessee,
when he campaigned and
won as the National Beta
Club President for the
2011-12 year.
Poche has traveled to
several state
conventions already as
the National President
across the US and has
plans to attend a few
more in the spring.
He
was the 5th and 8th
grade Student of the
Year and was the 5th
grade Vermilion Parish
Student of the year as
well. He has a 4.0 GPA
and is currently active
in sports such as cross
country, track and
soccer. In January of
2011, he was elected and
served as the District
Attorney for the
Vermilion Parish
Government Day.
In the summer of 2010,
Poche attended HOBY
(Hugh O’Brien Leadership
Conference in Baton
Rouge) after which two
other Louisiana students
were chosen to
participate in the World
Conference in San
Francisco, California.
As part of his service
work, he had the
opportunity to work with
Habitat for Humanity
program.
The seventeen year
old EHS senior has also
participated in several
other community service
projects since he began
high school in 2008. He
has served as a
volunteer for Our Lady
of Lourdes summer
children's program and
worked with the
newspaper drive with
other Betas in his club.
He has volunteered at
the St. Joseph Diner in
Lafayette, La. In 2005
and 2008, he
participated in
Hurricane Relief
programs to help
distribute
food/water/supplies at
distribution centers and
offered other services.
His active summer in
2011, led to his to
participation in Boy’s
State and the National
Broyhill Conference, as
well.
Poche has also
participated in the
Louisiana Association of
Student Council (LASC)
Summer Camp and is a
member of the Talented
and Gifted Education
Program.
After graduation in
May of 2012, he hopes to
attend Tulane or LSU
with the hope of
attending Law School. He
is the son of Mark and
Schuyler Poche with one
sister, Caroline, all
from Erath.
Poche was
named the Vermilion
Parish High School
Student of the year. He
was named the Regional
Student of the Year at
the end of March. He
will up for the the
state title in April.
