CRITERIA FOR PIANO MINORS OR MAJORS
1. Interested scholarship
recipients will meet with the Piano Lab chairperson and committee
members at the beginning of their junior or senior year in piano.
2. Scholarship recipients must be
declared piano minors or piano majors and must be full-time students
at their chosen universities.
3. New applicants must submit two
complete references (names, addresses, and phone numbers) of people
who can evaluate the potential for music study.
4. Applicants should submit
applicable high-school transcripts to the committee two weeks before
graduation with a minimum grade-point average of 2.75.
5. Scholarship applicants must
appear before a member of the music faculty for a live audition. The
college adjudicator will determine the date of the audition.
Applicants are cautioned that there are many students who audition
for minor and major placements in piano. Delaying an audition could
cancel your application.

Piano Audition Requirements
Students wishing to audition
as a piano minor or major at the college level should prepare the
following and complete the pre-testing with the EHS Lab instructor
prior to the college audition.

Pianists must perform three
works in contrasting styles from the Baroque, Classical,
Romantic or Contemporary eras. Memorization is required.

Technique: scales, chords,
cadences, and arpeggios as according to Level III from the LMTA
Handbook.

Students will also be asked
to sight-read a piano piece rated at approximately the early
intermediate level according to the LMTA State Handbook.

Students will take a theory
placement exam equal to the Level III LMTA State Test.

It is recommended that the
above four requirements be completed with the lab instructor at
least two weeks before the college audition date.

Cumulative GPA’s will be checked at the end of each semester to
determine eligibility for the following semester. The minimum GPA to
receive piano scholarship monies is a 2.50 over-all with a 3.50 in
piano.
7. The EHS Lab Scholarship
Committee will review recipients each semester.
8. Recipients for continued piano
scholarships should demonstrate the highest ideals of study and
class attendance, and progress towards completion of a degree in
music.
9. A semester refund is due by
the student if he/she drops out of minor or major piano study or
drops below the hours necessary to maintain full-time status.
10. In accepting the offer of
financial aid from the Curtis Trahan Scholarship Fund, the student
understands that there is a mutual commitment on the part of the
student and the committee
13. For the purpose of
determining all areas regarding the Curtis Trahan Scholarship
—eligibility, scholarship amounts, auditions, scholarship policy and
procedures, the scholarship committee of the EHS Piano Lab will
consist of 2 members from the administration, 1 staff member, and
the piano lab instructor.
That committee will make the
final determination for scholarship recipients and amounts. |
