The focus of the Heritage Education Grant is to have young people realize the value of the culture their own communities offer.  Through a workshop sponsored by the Heritage Education grant organization, I visited churches and cemeteries in Breaux Bridge and Abbeville.  I wanted the 6th and 7th graders of FIEB to realize the value of our own cemeteries and that we must spend time learning about and caring for these cemeteries if future generations can utilize this resource.  Because of the damage done to the local cemeteries by Hurricane Rita, I will be taking my students on a tour of St. Anne's cemetery in Cow Island and the cemetery of St. Mary Magdalene.  With the grant I will purchase a laptop, a digital camera, and flash drives. Students will create PowerPoint presentations of their experiences on the field trips.
