Music Grant for VPSB
Schools
The Vermilion Parish Music Department has
been approved for a grant supported by Very Special Arts Grant
of Louisiana, Inc. by VSA arts National in
Washington,
D.C. This particular project
includes a musical performance by a professional group entitled
PASTICHE whose program falls under the approved category of
Urban Cultural Access, and is made possible in part through
funding provided by the central office of VSA arts, under an
award from the U.S. Department of Education.
This program would allow students at Indian
Bayou, Seventh Ward, Jesse Owens, and Forked Island E. Broussard
to participate in a one-time program for 45-60 minutes on April
4 and April 5, 2007. The project is intended to impact students
in grades 2-5 and should take stage at each school’s performance
arena (cafeteria, gym, stage, or multipurpose building).
During the performance, students will
experience hands-on interaction with musical instruments along
with storytelling. Folk experience will be provided by the
Dixieland/ Jazz session presented by the performers.
