Vermilion Parish Honor Band Audition Requirements

The following audition requirements have been established by the Band Directors of Vermilion Parish:

Middle School Requirements

Middle School Scale Sheets: Flute; Oboe; Clarinet; Bass Clarinet; E-flat Contra Alto Clarinet; Alto / Bari Sax; Tenor Sax; Trumpet / Baritone TC; French Horn; Trombone / Baritone BC; Tuba

(Sight-reading will consist of three excerpts -- one each in 4/4, cut-time, and 6/8 time.)

High School Requirements

Woodwind & Brass Scales (concert pitches are given):
Scale ranges, including chromatic, are the same as the LMEA required scales.

       Set I: C, B-flat, A-flat, G-flat, E, D, + chromatic
       Set II: F, E-flat, D-flat, B, A, G, + chromatic
       Sight-reading

(Sight-reading will consist of three excerpts -- one each in 4/4, cut-time, and 6/8 time.)

2012 auditions will use Set I scales and rudiments.
Memorization is NOT required for rudiments or scales, including chromatic ! ! !

All high school percussionists will audition on multiple instruments, as listed below:

Set I -- Snare Drum
Five-stroke Roll (slow-fast-slow)
Flam-Paradiddle (slow-fast-slow)
Sight-reading
Set I -- Melodic Percussion
C, B-flat, A-flat Major Scales (two octaves only)
Chromatic Scale (two octaves only)
Sight-reading

Set II -- Snare Drum
Long Roll
Triple Ratamacue (slow-fast-slow)
Sight-reading
Set II -- Melodic Percussion
F, E-flat, D-flat Major Scales (two octaves only)
Chromatic Scale (two octaves only)
Sight-reading

Check the LMEA handbook carefully to determine which rudiments and scales are required each year for All State & District Auditions.
Please note that Vermilion Parish requirements are different than LMEA, as described above.
