Action ‘Cadienne donated to the Vermilion Parish School Board the sum of $5000 (five thousand dollars). This contribution will be used specifically to enhance the teaching of French in the public schools of Vermilion Parish and specifically for the acquisition of video equipment. Acadie-Louisiane campaign: In response to the hurricanes of September 2005, Solidarité Acadie-Louisiane was created by the Acadian community of the Canadian Maritime Provinces, to come to the aid of the Acadian-Cajun community of Louisiana. The proceeds of the Solidarité Acadie-Louisiane campaign are administered in Canada by the Société Nationale de l’Acadie, association founded in 1881, to protect and promote the interests of the Acadian community
Action Cadienne a non-profit organization administers the distribution in Louisiana of the proceeds of the Solidarité.
This contribution is a follow up to a visit of a delegation of New Brunswick (Canada) conducted by Zachary Richard. This delegation was made of Officers (President Michel Cyr and Ex. Dir. Rochelle Dugas) of the S.N.A. (largest Acadian organization in the world) of New Brunswick, Ca. who visited Vermilion Parish to survey the damage from Rita and pledged to donate funds to support the schools' French education programs.
Zachary Richard was the driving force behind the visit and the contribution geared to help Vermilion Parish French programs. Money was raised from Canadian concerts given by Zachary Richard and some of his friends Acadian musicians from Louisiana and Canada.
