Hope Hebert’s Kindergarten Class at
Dozier Elementary participated in the LACUE (Louisiana Association of
Computer Using Educators) Video Contest this fall. The state level
technology contest had eleven winners in four divisions: Early Childhood,
Elementary, Middle School and High School. Each group had categories such as
Academic, Social/Civic and Artistic. Of the eleven winners chosen, Hope
Hebert’s “Color Cheers for Kindergarten” won 1st place in the
Early Childhood Academic division at the state level.
Hebert was
recognized at the recent annual State LACUE Technology Conference in Baton
Rouge on December 3, 2010 and received a $200 check for her class’ video
entry.

All winning videos were displayed near the registration area throughout the
two days of the conference.
The video
lesson was created by Hebert to help the students learn to spell their color
words. Students chanted the letters of each color word with cheer actions.
Between each cheer, Hebert used additional visual color word video clips
showing the background of the color they were spelling with the word
embedded in white. Using Windows Movie Maker, she was able to compile the
final product. Both Hebert and her students videoed their entry using one
of the Dozier Elementary flip cameras. The final clip can be found
here!
