Vermilion Parish High School Chemistry"Raising the Bar"

Acids and Bases
  • Exploring Acids and Bases: In these experiments, students will investigate acid & base properties with materials that are found around the home. In addition, students will learn how chemists use the pH scale to describe acids and bases.

  • Introduction to Acids and Bases: This lab introduces students to the difference between acids and bases.

  • pH Calculations: A worksheet that gives students practice with pH calculations. Answers are provided.

  • Acid-Base Titration: In this lab, students will use a Chemistry Sensor with pH electrode and a Drop Counter to titrate a hydrochloric acid solution of unknown concentration with a sodium hydroxide solution of known concentration. They will use data and the stoichiometry of the reaction to determine the concentration of the hydrochloric acid solution. Can be adapted to fit sensors teachers already have.
