I chose to teach because of my love for working with individuals with developmental disabilities. Originally I wanted to open my own child care center, but during college I worked at Lowe's and my Human Resources Manager stated I would be great in that position. I completed my Bachelor's degree in the field I originally started since it was in the Human Services field. After graduating I was asked to step out of the training program due to the amount of ot her individuals with more qualifications that wanted to be in the classes.   I was then introduced to the Case Management field by ULL classmates.  I was hired on by Medical Resources and Guidance to be a Support Coordinator for consumers in the New Opportunities Waiver Program.  After working in this field for about 2.5 years I began having consumers' family members tell me how great I would be in the education field. They felt I would be more beneficial to individuals with disabilities as an educator rather than just an individual who managed services and staff for them. Due to Medicaid cut backs to the program and being the newest Case Manager at AHCS, I was laid off. This opened the doors for me to make a career change. I was interviewed at JHW Middle and hired on. I then took the necessary tests and was accepted to UL Monroe's online M.A.T. program to obtain my Master's degree and teaching certifications.
