Kaplan High an "A" School!

On October 22, 2012, the Louisiana State Department released School Performance Scores.  Kaplan High School improved from a “B” school to an “A” school .  Since 2007, the school has seen academic growth from 87.0 to this year’s score of 132.5.  That is a growth of 47.5 percentage point.  The school’s baseline SPS score, which is an average of two years was 126.9.  This ranked Kaplan High as one of the top performing 18 high schools in the state– including Magnet schools, as well as one of the top four 3A academic performing schools in the state of Louisiana. Kaplan High was also named as a TOP GAINER which means the school exceeded growth of five growth points.  According to Principal Laura LeBeouf, the effort has been endless.  This award is well deserved.  It is reflective of a joint effort by high school principals for the past three years to drive efforts for improvement.  Vermilion parish had three “A” high schools and two “B” schools.  It is also an indicator of teacher’s hard work and acceptance for higher standards and a quality education, and  an imparted effort from our student body to rise to the occasion and accept the challenge of higher expectations.  The Kaplan community as well as parents have been supportive in our efforts.  To maintain this status will be a challenge; however, we are working to continue status quo.  “  Last year, Kaplan High School was named as as 1 out of 32 of the best high schools showing growth and innovation by the Louisiana State Department. Standards for assessment according to State Superintendent John White  include schools will being graded, in part, based on more rigorous writing prompts. In the 2013-2014 school year, schools will be graded based on tests with more rigorous writing questions for all subjects - English language arts, mathematics, science and social studies. All 11th graders will also take the ACT. The following year, 2014-2015, tests will continue to increase rigor. In 2014-2015, Louisiana will begin using rigorous assessments the state has designed with the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC).
