NATIONAL CATHOLIC SCHOOLS WEEK

January 30 through February 3, 2012

Please make plans to be a part of our celebration.  We are grateful for your continued support of our school, our mission and our traditions.

 In honor of National Catholic Schools Week the school will have a display entitled “Maltrait Students Soar to New Heights”. Please stop by the school to view the display made by our students.

 During the week the students will participate in a “Crossword Puzzle” game.  Students complete the puzzle and turn in no later than the morning of January 30th.  From the puzzles completed correctly, five winners will be chosen to receive a special gift!

 On Sunday, March 18th at 1:30 p.m. a Recognition Ceremony will held at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Lafayette honoring our Educator (Mrs. Dawn Camel) and our Supporter/Achiever (Maltrait Christmas Store Elves) of the Year.

 Monday – January 30:  In Our Community/Parish

  • A message will be placed in the Church Bulletin expressing our thanks for the church and parishioners continued support of Catholic Education.
  • A banner, created by the 5th grade students, will be placed in front of the Church altar in celebration of Catholic Schools Week.
  • The 5th through 8th students along with faculty will attend 8:00 a.m. Mass in the VC Gym.  Immediately following, Christian Music Artist and Motivational Speaker John Angotti will address the students and faculty.  We invite parents, guardians, grandparents and alumni to attend the Mass and hear this special speaker.

Tuesday – January 31:  In Our Students

  • We congratulate and recognize Leah Camel, as the Student of the Year.
  • The Annual Spelling Bee will be held in the Maltrait Gym beginning at 8:30 a.m.  Second through eighth grade students will be participating.  Please join us.
  • The winner of the Spring Bazaar Poster Contest will be announced following the Spelling Bee.

Wednesday – February 1:  In Our Nation

  • At 8:15 a.m. a Living Rosary will be prayed for peace in the world in the MMCS gym.  Please join us.
  • In recognition of MMCS Spirit Day, the students may wear their Maltrait Spirit Shirts and Jeans along with Red, White and Blue accessories for $1.  The proceeds collected are being raised to benefit Relay for Life.
  • Join us for our Scholastic Book Fair Family Night from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Early Care Room located in the Main Building.
  • MMCS will be teaming up with the United Blood Services to save lives with a Blood Drive from 1:30 to 5:30 p.m.  Donors will receive a t-shirt for the child that recruited them.  Please call the office to sign up or online at www.bloodhero.com, Sponsor Code: maltrait.  A Sign Up Sheet is available in the school office.  Please bring your photo ID and donor card.

Thursday – February 2:  In Our Vocations

  • Father David Broussard will lead us at our morning assembly in prayer.  Immediately following, the students will have an opportunity to greet Father Broussard and thank him for all he does for our school.

Friday – February 3:  In Our Faculty, Staff, Volunteers, Parents, Grandparents and Supporters

  • We will celebrate Mass at Holy Rosary Catholic Church at 8:15 am.  We will honor Maltrait’s Educator (Mrs. Dawn Camel) and our Achiever/Supporter (Maltrait Christmas Store Elves) of the Year.  We invite parents, guardians, grandparents and alumni to attend Mass with us.  After Mass we invite everyone to view the students display in the main building and enjoy King Cake!
  • The Feast of St. Blaise – The blessing of the throats will follow after Mass.  We invite you to join us.
  • School will be dismissing at noon.  No buses will be running at this time.  Please make transportation arrangements and enjoy your afternoon!
