North Vermilion Middle School Student of the Year  2016 – 2017 Avery Franques

Student of the year: Avery Franques with Principal Joan Romero and Assistant Principal Renee Garrot.

North Vermilion is proud to announce that Avery Franques has been named Student of the Year.  Avery has been on the North Vermilion Student Council for three years, in the Beta Club for four years, the 4-H club for three years, the Vermilion Parish Talented and Gifted program for eight years, and is currently a member of the North Vermilion marching band.

Avery has accumulated many awards and has accomplished a great many things in her three years at North Vermilion Middle School.  She has been a 4.0 student her entire academic career and has achieved perfect attendance for her three years at NVMS.  In addition, Avery has been named to both Parish and District Honor Band and named Outstanding Band Member.  She placed first in the 2015 Math Tournament held annually in Lafayette parish.  In seventh grade, Avery was named “Most Valuable Patriot”.

In her seventh grade year, Avery scored a 26 on the ACT.  She dreams of attending an ivy league college like Harvard or Yale and becoming a doctor.  When asked about issues that are important to her, Avery states that adoption, education, and gender stereotypes have influenced her life.  She recognizes that without adoption, she would likely not have the opportunities she has been given in her life.  She is a strong advocate of education. She knows that education is not available to everyone around the world and she doesn’t take it for granted.  Finally, Avery names gender stereotypes as an issue of concern to her.  She says that more female role models are needed in the areas of math and science and hopes more girls become confident in pursuing STEM careers in the future.

Avery is the daughter of Donita and John Franques and the big sister to Cece.
