Ronney
D. Mayard

Memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 18th at 7:00PM at Vincent's Funeral Home in Abbeville.
Ronney D. Mayard, Vermilion Parish School Board’s Supervisor of Music and Arts
passed
away on Monday, August 15, 2005.
Mr. Ronney taught
music in Vermilion Parish Public Schools for 31 years. He retired
in
1989, but only for two years. He came back to work for the Vermilion Parish
School
board seven years ago as music and arts supervisor, overseeing 39 music,
speech,
visual arts and dance teachers.
In Mr. Ronney’s
“spare” time, he served as president of the Vermilion Arts Council
and the
Louisiana Wetlands Association, and is president-elect of the Louisiana Unit
of
International Jazz Educators and the Louisiana Music Educator’s Education
board.
Mayard also
founded the Vermilion Carousel of Arts 13 years ago and was
spearheading a new festival to be held September 3-4, over the Labor Day
weekend, the Louisiana Wetlands Fair and Festival.
Recently, in honor
of his personal accomplishments and outstanding service to his
community and
fellow man, April 13th, 2005 was declared Ronney Mayard Day, by
Abbeville
Mayor, Mark Piazza.
Mr. Ronney will be
greatly missed and for those of us that worked with him every
day, we
feel like this is “The Day The Music Died.”
