Science Grade 5th - 8th in all schools at J.H.Williams Middle School

 

Month of June:

Science Workshop:  GLX Data Logger
Media Center  Meeting Room:  1:30 PM to 3:00 PM

(all science levels  from first grade to twelfth grade)  

 Goal:  Getting acquainted with the instrument involving sensor data acquisition and analysis.  Participants will engage in real hands-on scenarios promoting inquiry. Participants may attend several meetings at the same level with the idea is for everyone to feel comfortable with the scientific instrumentation which will be used with the students.

    Basic Level:  June 5, 6, 7  

    Intermediate/Advanced Levels:  June 12, 13, 14 

    Basic Level:  June 20, 21    

    Intermediate/Advanced Levels:  June 26, 27, 28 

    June 7th: 8: 00 AM to 10 AM  Laptop In-service:  one designated person in each school was in-serviced on the set-up and maintenance of  the  laptop. 

Month of July:  High school

Goal:  Integration of equipment within the curriculum to insure the construction of experimental  knowledge which will bridge the transition from concrete to abstract in science.

 6 hrs: 8:00 AM - 2:45 PM.

Physical Science, Environmental Science, Biology, Physics & Chemistry:

Introduce the what, how, and when of the grant.   Teachers will view a Power Point presentation with all materials available at each site, copies to each teacher, available resources on black board,  materials and resources connected  to GLEs.

Teachers will participate in activities pertaining to the five subject areas where the teachers will be involved in the set-up phase of the experiment as well as in the experiments themselves.

Kenevision comprehensive microscope, QX5 comprehensive microscope, and digital T -1952 microscopes will be introduced.   Teachers will discuss usage and maintenance of microscopes and engage in activities with computer interface and LCD projectors.

Month of August:

Tuesday August 7th and Wednesday August 8th at Herod Elementary

Elementary Schools (schools with no seventh and eighth grade):  24 different elementary teachers each day (3 per school per day ) from the 8 elementary schools listed below will be trained on each day  at Herod.

Participating schools are Dozier Elementary, Eaton Park Elementary, Herod Elementary, Jesse Owens Elementary, Kaplan Elementary, Maurice Elementary, Meaux Elementary, Seventh Ward Elementary

8:30 AM - 3:15 PM

Tuesday, August 14th at J. H. Williams :  (schools with a 7th and 8th grade )

Participating Schools:  Rene Rost, Erath Middle, North Vermilion High School (7-8), Forked Island, Indian Bayou and J. H. Williams

8: 00 AM - 2:45 P.M. 

Goal:  Integration of equipment within the curriculum to insure the construction of experimental  knowledge which will bridge the transition from concrete to abstract in science.

 

 

 

August 15th : Parish In-service Day

High school:  all science teachers grade 9th - 12th at Abbeville High /Mrs. Menard's Classroom and Science Lab 

Registration 7:00 A.M. - 2:30 PM

Pasco workshop:  integration of  "Energy for Learning" in the curriculum with Gary Nicholson (Pasco Texas representative) and other national presenters.

 

All science teachers Grades 5th to 8th at J. H. Williams with Dawn Warren 5th Grade science teacher and national science teacher of the year.
