Dozier Elementary’s 5th grade Social Studies classes at Dozier Elementary are participating in an Indian unit by creating totem poles and teepees.  Each of the totem pole and teepee symbols was researched on the computer. The chosen symbols had to reflect their life. The students had to explain that in written format. The students brought in paper towel rolls for the project. Students also explained why the Indians used the totem poles.  With the teepee part of the project, again computer research was done on the symbols that were created by the Indians. The students also will tell which Indian tribes used tepees for their houses. Pictured are all four Dozier Elementary 5th grade classes with either their teepees (tipis) or totem poles.
