Dr. Seuss' Birthday Celebration @ Dozier Elementary March 7, 2014

Dozier Elementary hosted its annual Dr. Seuss event again this year. Due to Dr. Seuss' actual birthday held on March 2nd falling on the weekend, followed by Mardi Gras, the event was delayed until Friday, March 7th.

Dozier Elementary Librarian Schuyler Poche successfully planned a variety of fun filled activities for the students and teachers to honor famous author and to encourage reading. Activities surrounded author Theodor Seuss Geisel (Dr. Seuss).

To promote the “Read Across America” theme, teachers and students were invited to dress as storybook characters from their favorite books.

Librarian Schulyer Poche also arranged for guest readers to read Dr. Seuss books to classes. Erath Town Councilman John LeBlanc, Vermilion Parish leaders Superintendent Jerome Puyau, Assistant Superintendents Paul Hebert and Ellen Arceneaux were on hand to read. Puyau not only read, but dressed as the Dr. Seuss character "Thing 1" to read to Kindergarten students. Also from the Central Office were Music Supervisor Madeline DeHart and
Supervisor of Maintenance Lonnie Richard. Retired teachers reading included (Meaux Elementary’s former librarian) Cindy Leblanc, Cheryl Desormeaux (from Dozier Elementary) and as well as (former Erath Middle teachers) Joan Langlinais and Nancy Toups. School leaders Karla Toups, Natalie Hebert and Shelanne Richard read to classes as well.
