Dozier Elementary Librarian Schuyler Poche recently hosted the first AR (Accelerated Reader) Party of the 2010-11 school year. This year’s theme is western and titled "Saddle Up and Read, Buckaroo!"  One hundred ninety seven students in 2nd through 5th grade were able to attend on November 10, 2010. This is the first of three for the year.

The AR committee met in August to decide on the amount of points needed to receive an invitation to attend the three parties.

The students had to read and gather a designated amount to participate. For the first party 2nd Graders were required to earn 5 points.  3rd Graders needed 8 points, 4th graders needed 10 points, while 5th graders needed 12 points. One hundred ninety two Dozier students achieved those goals, with many reading much more.

The group was treated to an ice cream and brownies party in the library.  The next AR party is scheduled for February with more points expected for students to attend.  The final party will be a water-mania party at the end of the year. All information is posted on the Dozier Elementary website and on the library website @  Pictured are some of the students who attended the party.  The 1st grade students began AR this month and will be able to participate in the February party.

The top reader in the school currently is 3rd grader Heather Rabassa with 154.5 points.
