Many of us realize how important a library is to a school. St. Peter School Library is no different. For many years the library was housed in the second floor hallway in the old convent. The stairs were steep and there was very little air to circulate .
St. Peter School Library and Administration Building were constructed in 1998 after the fire martial condemned the old convent which had housed the library. It was constructed by Mr.Rodney Istre. In addition to serving as a library, the building serves as a catechetical center, meeting place, and sometimes a testing center. Books are divided according to the Dewey Decimal System with the exception of Reading Counts by Scholastic. This program enables students to read and comprehend on their own level as books have the reading level posted on the spine of the book. Students are able to test their comprehension on the computer after reading the book. The computer maintains a record for each child and he/she can measure progress literally or on a graph. The library contains many valuable reference books; many of which have been donated by Father Grady Estilette. |
