An alternative to setting up a Yahoo account is to use Web2Mail!

Adam Melancon has the following recommendations if you Cox internet at home:

If they have Cox as their ISP, they can check using the "vrml.k12.la.us"
as their pop server, but use Cox's SMTP server to send email:
I setup Mozilla Thunderbird at my house for my wife (2nd grade teacher
at Herod) to connect to "vrml.k12.la.us" to retrieve her pop email.  I
have also checked the option to leave the mail on the server so that the
final mail destination will be her inbox at work.  To send email,  you
can configure email to be sent through Cox's SMTP server at
smtp.central.cox.net.  It works like a charm.  Of course, from home,
using Mail2web is a bit easier.
