| If the city of Abbeville,
which was founded in 1843 by a Catholic priest, is on your list of
places to see, you're in for a treat. Abbeville's downtown is
centered around beautiful Magdalen Square and surrounded by National
Historic Register properties, both commercial and residential. You
will find some of the best Cajun and traditional food in the area at any
one of the 22 plus restaurants which call Abbeville home. A
leisurely walk through the city will allow you to take in such sites as
the Steen's Cane Syrup Mill, the Riviana Rice Mill, the Abbeville
Cultural and Historical Alliance Center, the 100 year old Saint Mary
Magdalen Catholic Church and its adjacent cemetery, and the Vermilion
Parish Courthouse. Visit some of the many shops which feature the
works of local artisans.
Experience our culture and history first hand. You'll be glad you put us on your list of places to visit. For tourist information you may contact the Abbeville Tourist Center at 337-898-4264 or e-mail us at tourist@acadian.net. |
